Version 1.0 · 5 October 2026

The short version. JAQ is your personal assistant. It only works with what you give it, so we keep what the assistant needs to do what you ask, and nothing more. We never sell your data, we never use it to train AI models, and the people who build JAQ cannot read what you keep in your account. You can see, correct, download or delete it at any time.

1. Who we are

JAQ is run by Alxys Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17505468), registered office 114-120 Northgate Street, Chester, CH1 2HT. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this notice, which means we decide how and why it is used. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, under registration number [ICO number].

Questions about your data go to [email protected].

2. What we collect

Everything in this list is tied to your account and nobody else's. Where a row says only if you switch it on, we collect nothing of that kind until you do.

WhatWhere it comes fromWhen

Your assistant's settings: the name you give it, the voice you pick, your preferences, quiet hours, spending limits.You.Always.

Memory: things the assistant remembers from your conversations so it can help next time (your dentist's name, that you prefer mornings).Worked out from your conversations.Always. You can see and edit it.
Money: your wallet balance, top-ups, every charge and what it was for, receipts and VAT invoices. Your card details are held by Stripe, not by us; we keep only Stripe's reference numbers for your customer record and payment method. You, and Stripe.Once you add a card.
Your JAQ phone number: the number we give you, texts and calls to and from it, voicemails, call recordings and transcripts. You, and the people who call or text your number.Only if you switch it on.
Calls the assistant makes for you: who it called, when, the recording and transcript, and what was agreed.Created when you approve a call.Only if you switch it on, and each call needs your yes.
Calendar: events from a calendar you connect, and events the assistant adds.Google Calendar, with your permission.Only if you switch it on.
Things you tell it about your life: your home address, vehicles, the people in your address book, birthdays and the like.You.Only if you add them.

Early access list: your email address, the name you gave your assistant and the first task you typed on our website. You, on jaq.app.If you sign up for early access.

We do not ask for, and do not want, special category data (health, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, politics, trade union membership, genetic or biometric data). If you tell the assistant something of that kind, it is stored in your account like anything else you say, under your control, and we use it only to do what you asked.

3. Features you switch on

JAQ is built so that each feature is off until you turn it on. Turning one on is your consent for the data it needs; turning it off stops new collection straight away. You can do both in Me → Features in the app.

4. Why we use it, and the legal basis

UK data protection law says we need a reason (a "lawful basis") for each thing we do with your data. These are ours.

What we doLawful basis
Run your assistant: hold your conversations and memory, carry out what you ask, send and receive texts and calls, keep your diary, run watches and reminders, book helpers.Contract: it is the service you signed up for.
Take payment, hold your wallet, show your statement, issue receipts and VAT invoices.Contract, and legal obligation for tax and accounting records.
Features you switch on (section 3), including connecting your calendar and recording calls.Consent, which you can withdraw at any time by switching the feature off.
Keep the service secure: detect fraud, abuse, nuisance calling and attempts to break in; keep logs; rate-limit.Legitimate interests: ours and every other user's, in a safe service. We have weighed this against your privacy and keep the logs short-lived.
Improve the service: fix bugs, measure how features are used, in aggregate.Legitimate interests. We use counts and totals, not your conversations. We do not use your data to train AI models.
Answer your support requests, with a look at your account only when you agree.Contract and consent.
Tell you about important changes (terms, prices, security).Legal obligation and legitimate interests.
Send you news about JAQ by email.Consent; every email has an unsubscribe link.
Report helpers' earnings to HMRC; respond to lawful requests from the police, courts or regulators.Legal obligation.

We do not make decisions about you with legal or similarly serious effects purely by automated means. Our abuse detection can pause an account automatically; a person at JAQ reviews every pause and you can ask for a human to look again.

5. Signing in with Google or Apple

JAQ has no passwords. You sign in with your Google account (and, in the phone apps, your Apple account). When you do, Google or Apple shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We use them only to create your JAQ account, sign you in and show who is signed in. We do not use them for advertising, we do not sell or share them, and we do not ask Google for access to your Gmail, Drive or contacts. You can remove JAQ's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions (or in your Apple ID settings), and deleting your JAQ account deletes this information.

JAQ's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

6. How the assistant uses AI

Your assistant thinks using large language models made by Anthropic, and speaks using voices made by ElevenLabs. To answer you, the relevant part of your conversation (and, when needed, your memory and the file you sent) is sent to those providers and the answer comes back. We use their business services under contracts that say:

The assistant will tell anyone who asks that it is an AI, and it tells businesses it calls. It can make mistakes. Check anything that matters before you rely on it, and never treat it as a doctor, lawyer or financial adviser.

7. People you ask the assistant to contact

When the assistant calls or texts a business for you, or a helper does a job at your address, we handle a little data about other people: the business's phone number, the name of the person who answered, what was said. We do this on your behalf, so that you can get what you asked for, under our legitimate interests and yours. We keep it with your conversation, we do not use it for anything else, and we never add those people to a marketing list. At launch the assistant calls businesses, not private individuals.

If someone calls or texts your JAQ number, the assistant answers, tells them it is an AI assistant, and takes a message for you. Their number and message are stored in your account.

8. Who we share data with

We never sell personal data, and we never share it for advertising. We share it only with the companies that help us run JAQ ("processors"), who may use it only on our instructions, and in the few other situations below.

We also share data:

9. Where your data is kept

Your account, conversations, files and backups are stored in the United Kingdom (Amazon Web Services, London). Some of the companies in section 8 process data in the USA or the EU. When data leaves the UK we make sure it is protected to the UK standard: the EU has a UK adequacy decision; for the USA we rely on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, and otherwise on the ICO's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, plus encryption in transit. You can ask us for details of the safeguard that applies to a particular provider.

10. How long we keep it

WhatHow long
Your account, settings, conversations, memory and filesWhile your account is open. You can delete any conversation, memory or file sooner. When you close your account, everything is deleted within 30 days, and from backups within 35 days.
Call recordings30 days, then deleted. Transcripts stay with the conversation.
Voicemails and texts to your numberWith the conversation, as above.
Wallet, charges, receipts and VAT invoices6 years after the end of the tax year they relate to, as tax law requires, even after your account is closed. We keep the financial record, not your conversations.
Helper job records, ratings and disputes6 years, for the same reason, and because disputes and insurance claims can arise later.
Security and server logs90 days.
Support conversations2 years after the ticket closes.
Early access listUntil JAQ opens to you, or until you unsubscribe, whichever is sooner, and no longer than 12 months.

11. How we protect it

12. Your rights

You have the right to:

To use a right that is not in the app, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We answer within one month, free of charge.

13. Children

JAQ is for adults. You must be 18 or over to have an account. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we learn that we have, we delete it. If you think a child has an account, tell us at [email protected].

14. Changes to this notice

When we add a feature that uses data in a new way, we update this notice and tell you in the app before the feature is available to you; where the feature needs your consent, it stays off until you switch it on. For smaller changes we update the version and date at the top. Older versions are available on request.

15. Contact and complaints

Email [email protected], or write to Alxys Ltd, 114-120 Northgate Street, Chester, CH1 2HT. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would like the chance to put it right first.
